The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Brake Safety Week will be taking place from September 15-21. During this time, enforcement officials throughout North America will conduct roadside safety inspections on commercial and motor vehicles.
Enforcement officials will be paying special attention to brake hoses and tubing. CVSA is highlighting brake hoses and tubing as a reminder of their importance to mechanical safety and fitness. Hoses and tubing will be checked for proper attachment, any damage, leaking and appropriate flexibility.
Out-of-adjustment brakes and brake-system violations accounted for 45 percent of all out-of-service vehicle violations during last year’s International Roadcheck.
What to Expect
Due to these inspections, there could be potential impacts on capacity due to many carriers opting to avoid the roads during this period. Here is what you can expect:
- Possible increase in ship time
- Temporary drop in truck capacity
- Rate spikes in the spot market
