If you’re a regular reader, you’re probably familiar with our Salesperson Spotlights! Every now and then, we like to take a time-out from our regular content and spotlight one of Trinity’s stellar sales reps. This week, we’re featuring John Park, a big-hearted Texan with tons of logistics experience and a Southern drawl that could win anybody over. Check out the questions we asked him below.
How long have you been with Trinity, and how did you end up here?
I’ve been with Trinity for about five years. Chris Shaw, the VP of Operations at Trinity’s Texas office, worked with me at another logistics company. In 2008, we both left there to start up the Texas office. We started out with only five people in the office, and now we’re up to 30 or so. We also just moved into a brand new, much roomier office here in the Dallas area.
What has been your favorite thing about working at Trinity?
Probably all the support we get from the corporate office, whether it’s credit, collections, billing, marketing… they’re a really professional team that backs you up no matter what, and that means a lot to me. It’s good to be with an organization that is as serious about the business as we are. You don’t have to chase anyone around to get stuff done, and there’s tons of support from the corporate level. Also, our good reputation makes it really easy for me to find carriers to work with.
So… it would appear that you got pied in the face.
Sure did! Our office is a huge supporter of the Angelheart Kids organization, so we’re very involved with the children they have in foster care. Last year, we had a Christmas party for them, and we wanted it to be even bigger and better this year, so we had a bunch of fundraisers to raise money for the party. We had jars lined up in the office with people’s names on them, and whoever ended up with the most money in their jar would get pied. Well, I won, and Gayla, one of the other Texas office team members, ended up doing the honor. I told her to take it easy, but she slammed that thing right in my face… and it was half frozen. Plus it was outside – in the wintertime. At least it was lemon meringue!
What’s something interesting about you that most people don’t know?
I was diagnosed with dyslexia when I was 2 years old, and it’s something that really impacted my life. Despite my struggles in school growing up, I was able to complete a four-year bachelor’s degree in just three years, and I was immediately selected for a competitive management training program with Yellow Freight right out of college.
What’s the first thing you think your customers notice about you?
The first thing they always notice is that I follow up a lot. I’m really conscious about making sure everything gets done right. They always tell me I follow up better than anybody else in the industry and I’m on my game. One customer wanted me to come give a speech to their salespeople about integrity and customer service and follow-up, so that was awesome.
What do you think separates Trinity from our competitors?
I would say the quality of the people that we have working here. If you have quality people, your company will shine. The character and integrity of our people and the passion we have for our jobs is what really makes us stand out.
